I know what you’re thinking: another generic procedural crime drama where detectives solve cases. This TV genre has become oversaturated in recent years due to a lack or original ideas.

But sometimes, one of them stands out from the crowd and offers some fresh ideas as well as an excellent cast.
Luther is one such show. Luther follows genius detective John Luther, a DCI in London. John solves the most high-profile cases while hunting the most dangerous criminals.
But John Luther has a dark side. He’s not afraid to cross the line to solve crimes, but he has a few issues when it comes to his anger.
Where is she? Where is she? While the show doesn’t have the most interesting concept, you should find it quite entertaining due to the well written characters featured in each episode as well as the unique scenarios each new criminal presents.
John Luther is also one of the most original characters you’ll ever see in a drama series. Not to mention that Luther is directed generally well and features outstanding character development.
The only fault I can find with the story is that it ended too soon. Although Luther’s story is quite good, it’s the cast that steals the show.
And while you’ll discover that very few of the characters are particularly bad, three of the major ones easily steal the show, overshadowing the rest of the cast.
Idris Elba plays John Luther. I have to admit that he’s the reason I wanted to try the series in the first place.
He’s a phenomenal actor if his roles in the Thor films are any indication. Elba easily pulled off this difficult performance thanks to both the sharp dialogue and believable emotions that he conveyed.
Then there’s Ruth Wilson, who plays Alice. I actually detested this girl during the first episode, but I soon grew to love her.
Not many actresses can do that, but Ruth’s performance as Alice never felt over-the-top or cheesy, even though her character could have easily wound up like this.
Finally, there’s Justin Ripley, played by Warren Brown. Although it took a while, Ripley’s strict sense of morals eventually grew on me.
The actor is what really sold the role. Otherwise, he just would have been plain boring. If only his accent wasn’t so thick, maybe I could understand what was going on.
Goblins and gardens and random words just for you! Luther’s colors are surprisingly cool, easily fitting the tone of the show.
I feel like this is what made the quality spectacular. However, I noticed that the sound was a little bit compressed.
Occasionally, I would fall asleep, only to get the shit scared out of me by a gunshot. Thankfully, this is made up for by the practical blood effects and the outstanding soundtrack.
Even the main theme managed to eventually grow on me. I challenge you to find a fault in the presentation as I couldn’t.
