Imagine it is the year 2002, you are at home watching your favourite cartoon series while enjoying some snacks. Life is good. Wasn’t that a perfect setting.
No kid’s childhood is complete without cartoons. How amusing it used to be to watch Emmy and Zak fly away to the world of dragons.
Mr Bean’s quirkiness and Shin Chan’s naughty behaviour. Everything was a treat to watch.
Today we bring you the second instalment of 5 cartoon series from the 90’s that defined our childhood.
5. Looney tunes
Looney Tunes had something for everyone. The show revolves around Bugs Bunny and his roommate Daffy living with their neighbours like Lola Bunny, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Elmer, Sylvester, Tweety and many more. Each of them was epic in their own way.
Looney Tunes has become a worldwide media franchise, spawning several television series, comic books, video games and much more.
Many of the characters have made cameo appearances in various other television shows, films, and advertisements. Bugs Bunny is so famous that it has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
4. Ed, Edd ‘n’ Eddy
This is the simplest of all. Just three silly boys goofing around their neighbourhood.
The series revolves around three preteen boys named Ed, Edd and Eddy—collectively known as “the Eds”—who live in the fictional town of Peach Creek.
Under the unofficial leadership of Eddy, the trio frequently invents schemes to make money from their peers.
Their plans usually fail, leaving them in various, often humiliating, predicaments.
This show also featured the most popular non-living character, the wooden plank, who was Jonny’s best friend.
3. Dexter’s Laboratory
Who can forget the boy genius?
For us 90s kids, there was no one smarter than this kid. The fact that he had a personal laboratory in his own house which he keeps secret from his parents, was enough to get a lot of us hooked onto the show’s interesting storyline.
And yes, there was no one more annoying than DeeDee. Dexter also engages in a bitter rivalry with a fellow boy-genius named Mandark, who is Dexter’s neighbour and classmate.
Even if you are an adult now and haven’t watched it, start downloading.
2. Courage the Cowardly Dog
The pink cowardly dog, ironically called Courage had to protect its abusive owner Eustace and his wife Muriel from some of the scariest villains ever.
They lived in a farmhouse in “the middle of Nowhere”. In every episode of this horror-comedy series, the trio would go through a series of bizarre misadventures involving the supernatural.
The series is known for its dark, surreal humour and atmosphere. In other words, it had the most intriguing plot.
1. Tom and Jerry
One of the most popular cartoons of all time, this show is an emotion altogether. The most iconic rivalry of all time, this show featured Tom the cat who was always behind
Jerry the mouse, who somehow always managed to escape. The plot was a remarkable depiction of “chuhe billi ki daud”. Gravity never acted on Tom until he looked down.
The series has managed to remain a classic and has both adults and children go gaga over its simple yet hilarious episodes.
So, these were our picks of cartoon series that were loved by 90’s kids. I know you have some other names in your mind because there are many more options we couldn’t accommodate in even 2 parts.
